The Dance of Zahirah

I feel lucky every time I witness beauty.  It can be a simple gesture between a child and a parent, romantic looks of a couple in love, or countless other gifts of beauty to witness any given day. It is easy to see that I  felt honored to watch  and photograph this young lady dance at the Drummer’s Circle at Malcolm X Park (Meridian Hill Park), Washington DC.
This young lady is stunningly beautiful, but her dance is more captivating.  As an artist, I attempt to capture the beauty that embodies a subject and not just surface glamour.  I accomplished that in this set.  Viewers can connected to her movements, mood, and spirit.
I met her briefly and I asked her name, She said Zahirah.  So I present to you Zahirah
The Dance of Zahara

The Embodiment of Humanity: The monument of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy is the embodiment of  humanity.  Humanity is inclusiveness, love, joy, selflessness, righteousness, world stewardship, peace and much more. We are often misled from our humanity and beauty, but Life creates someone like Dr. King to  remind us of our true nature.  Just as The Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, Gandhi, Thich Nhat Hahn, and countless others, Dr. King made a commitment to serve the world.

Dr. King’s commitment provides a blueprint of nonviolent resistance, love and unconditional acceptance.  Clearly Moses was born into the struggles of the Jews and his contributions freed a nation from slavery. Dr. King was born into the struggle of African-Americans, and his efforts are the foundation for civil equality for African-Americans.  Neither Moses or Dr. King saw “the promise land,” but it was their dreams that planted the seeds of faith, hope, and love in people. The fruits of those seeds provided freedoms for all men.

Crystal C.

I enjoyed this session with Crystal.  Originally my goal was to take test shots, but I found it so easy to work with Crystal that this session turned into a full shoot.  I look forward to working with Crystal again in the future.

Nicola N- The Essence of a Woman’s Beauty

Nicola’s sessions were all impromptu, but she provided inspiration with every pose and shot.  Her beauty is natural and pure, which was easy to capture.  She is my muse.

Drummers’ Church of DC 7/3/2011

The Drummers’ Church of DC is a multicultural gathering at Malcolm X Park in DC. We comes to listen or participate  and experience   togetherness and harmony.  I called the gathering Drummers’ Church of DC because I feel a sense of fellowship and a connection to my Ancestors.

This Sunday was a wonderful and inspirational day at Drummers’ Church of DC. The drummers and other instrumentalists were on point and the dancers freed themselves of their burden if only for a little time.  However, the dancers romped until the rain  forced us to find shelter in a small covered gathering area on the stairs.

Red heartThe Drummers started up again and we enjoyed one last dance and “togetherness” movement.

DC Caribbean Festival 2011

I enjoyed much of this festival, but there were some technical difficulties.  As a result of the technical difficulties, many of the floats did not have music.  Here are some highlights.
